Did Leeds Secure Premier League Survival?

In a resounding 3-1 defeat of Burnley FC at Elland Road, Leeds United Premier League survival seems almost guaranteed. The outcome boosts Leeds United to the 14 th position and 43 out of 35 matches. More to the point, they are currently nine points ahead of Tottenham Hotspur that is still in the relegation zone. Leeds now has just three games to survive and it is in its hands.

Leeds began the game with a purpose. It was worth their initial pressure when Anton Stach shot a low ball into the bottom corner in the eighth minute. The goalkeeper, Martin Ducbravka was taken unawares by the strike and it was the start of the game.

Leeds got on top in the second half. In the 52nd minute Noah Okafor increased the lead. The action started with a good backheel pass by Dominic Calvert-Lewin, who freed Jayden Bogle to deliver the pass.

Calvert-Lewin scored his third goal just four minutes later. When Dubravka defended an attempt of Ao Tanaka, he responded promptly. By that time, the game was virtually finished.

Burnley attempted to answer. Lucas Pires believed that he had scored, yet VA disallowed the goal due to offside. The visitors were able to secure a late consolation, but it was not very significant.

This victory indicates the good performance of Leeds at the end of the season. They were in relegation at one point. They are now just about to win another year in the premier league. With this progress they have, they will soon be guaranteed to survive, mathematically speaking.
