FC Koln Victory Over Wolfsburg Secures Top-Half Spot

FC Koln won Wolfsburg 1-0 in the Bundesliga. This is their first win in five games with Wolfsburg. The goal that was the decider in the RheinEnergieStadion was scored by Linton Maina, which saw Koln rise to a good mid-table status.

Koln put pressure early on in the match. After the 14 th minute, Ragnar Ache got a golden opportunity to break the scoring. They dropped into the box, and he shot him offside. Only four minutes later Ache headed another chance, which was of short distance. Wolfsburg goalkeeper Kamil Grabara had a vital save to hold the score at par.

Koln kept on advancing. One of the forwards, Marius Bulter, passed a cross to Kristoffer Lund whose head fell just short of the goal. The lost opportunities do not mean that Koln did not succeed soon. Linton Maina left a gap on the edge of the penalty area and took a left-footed shot. The ball hit Moritz Jenz a bit offside and Grabara, who was wrongfooted, hit the net. The match-winner turned out to be the objective of Maina.

Wolfsburg made an attempt to act promptly. Patrick Wimmer had a clear opportunity when a ball fell over the top, however, his shot nearly at the post went past the bar. The visitors were having difficulties in making distinct cut opportunities due to a well-organized Koln defense. Koln was in control of the game and Wolfsburg was kept away until the rest of the first half.

During the second half, Koln continued taking control. On the counter they appeared dangerous and gave Wolfsburg test on the goalkeeper. Wolfsburg tried to get even but was unable to score at the back of the net. The defensive structure of the home team and rapid transitions did not give a threat any serious opportunity.
