Mario Pineida Dies After Attack

The sudden and tragic news of the death of Mario Pineida has shaken the football fraternity in Ecuador with Barcelona Sporting Club confirming that former international left-back died after he was attacked violently in the city of Guayaquil.

The local reports show that the 33-year-old was shot outside a store in the North section of the city. Although the police have initiated a formal inquiry, the suspects or motives have not been revealed yet.

Barcelo Sporting Club, in a statement, said it was very saddened by Pineida’s death saying that the news was devastating to all who were associated with the club. The quote was focused on the emotional effect of the tragedy and offered condolences to the family, friends, and loved ones of Pineida.

Pineida started his football career with Independiente del Valle, where he came out as a reliable defender, and he served five years of his life. His performances made him known both in the club and international level which in long run gave him an opportunity abroad, where he temporarily worked with Brazilian team Fluminense.

During 2015 to 2021 Pineida was the national team of Ecuador, making nine caps and playing in the world cup qualifications. He was not a regular starter but was considered a disciplined and an experienced squad member who was called in at any time.

After coming back to domestic football, Pineida remained a consistent and lead player, gaining the respect of the top-flight football in Ecuador. He was also a role model to the young players because of his professionalism and work ethic.

Barcelo SC also declared that they would also hold memorial tributes in the honor of Pineida whereby supporters can come and pray and remember. Ecuador still deals with this loss and Pineida is not only being remembered as a successful figure in the field, but as the one who created a strong impression on those he played with, fans, and fans in general.
