Ronald Araujo Liverpool future plans remain undecided, with the Uruguayan defender insisting it is too early to discuss a permanent transfer despite making an encouraging start to his loan spell at Anfield. The Barcelona legend has been thrown into the deep end of the pool in Liverpool, but has soon made the transition to his new first choice, the right-hand corner.
Supporters have also enjoyed his performances and a long-term stay is likely now more than ever. Liverpool, meanwhile, are said to have £47m ($63m) to make Araujo’s move to the club permanent. But the club will have to consider the age of the defender as he will reach 28 in March. Ahead of his Champions League match against Villarreal on Tuesday, Araujo downplayed the rumour mill, saying that his first task is to perform for his current team.
“It’s too early to discuss such things,” said the Uruguay international. I’m quite happy to be here, my family are very happy, but it’s a little early to be talking about all this. The defender, who has appeared 10 times for Liverpool, admitted that his job at an elite European club is a lot of pressure and responsibility. He does think that his time at Barcelona has helped him adapt to the hype that accompanied his transfer to England though. It’s not easy coming to Liverpool, Araujo said, explaining the requirements of playing for a big club.
He also said he knew how difficult it was to leap the Premier League and was prepared to do everything he could since he joined. “Big sides isn’t easy, but this is what we’re here for, this is our job,” he said. Liverpool’s European campaign has also begun well as the squad went and picked up wins over Atletico Madrid and LASK to grab six points from their first two games in the Champions League league phase.
