Following an outstanding season in which he helped FC Barcelona win a domestic treble, Lamine Yamal on Tuesday signed a six-year contract extension, extending his tenure at the club.
Yamal’s old contract was slated to expire at the end of the 2025–26 season, but Barcelona moved quickly to guarantee the young star’s future by making a new contract offering that would keep him at the club until 2031.
Yamal, who debuted for the senior team in 2023, aged just 15, has had a breakthrough campaign under head coach Hansi Flick. Playing a major part in Barcelona’s victories in La Liga, the Copa del Rey, and the Spanish Super Cup, the young wonder tallied up an incredible 18 goals and 25 assists in 55 outings this season.
Celebrating the contract renewal in an official statement, Barcelona hailed Yamal’s exceptional potential as evidence of the club’s long-term thinking and belief.
“Yamal’s renewal shows how solid Barça’s project is. The club said, “his arrival onto the world football scene is unlike few others.”
“The lad from Mataró, near Barcelona, has exploded onto the world stage with performances that already part of Barcelona’s history,” the statement said.
Yamal holds various records, including being the youngest striker in La Liga, the Copa del Rey, and the Spanish Super Cup, having scored 25 goals in 115 games for Barcelona. He is also the youngest player to make 100 club appearances.
Yamal, set to be eighteen in July, has quickly become a worldwide football star. Apart from his local performance, he was instrumental in Spain’s European Championship triumph last summer, therefore reinforcing his image as one of the most promising young football players.
Following his exceptional season, football analysts and supporters have started making comparisons between Yamal and club icons as Lionel Messi, Neymar, and Ronaldinho.
