Brighton’s Milner Eyes Premier League Milestone

The club announced on Friday that English midfielder James Milner has signed a one-year contract extension with Brighton & Hove Albion F.C. as he seeks a Premier League record.

Milner debuted in the Premier League at 16 for Leeds United. He made only four league appearances in 2024-25 due to an August injury. He has 638 Premier League matches, close to Gareth Barry’s 653. Following the announcement that Milner will play this season, head coach Fabian Huerzeler said he feels wonderful.

“I’m really pleased we will have James with us again this season,” he stated.

He admitted that Milner was injured last season but said that the midfielder’s presence would be important, especially for the youth.

“He didn’t play much last season, but his experience is invaluable, especially for the younger guys.

He called Milner ‘excellent’ and said he looks forward to working with him again. He’s a terrific man to have around, always supporting me and the squad. Looking forward to working with him again.” For the unfamiliar, Brighton finished seventh in the Premier League last season and missed European qualification.
