The English club Chelsea has rocked the world of English football after the London based club announced that their manager is fired after a horrible streak of performances which plunged their season into a free fall. In January, Liam Rosenior replaced Enzo Maresca, yet only had under four months in the role. His tenure in office soon became challenging with the failure of results to improve and performances declining. Chelsea FC now have seven losses in their past eight matches in all competitions, which have badly hurt their prospects of making it to the champions league.
The shape of the club has also caused issues with the long-term squad direction and consistency. Lack of goals at Chelsea was one of the most worrying events during the brief tenure of Rosenior. Their worst scoring slump since the first half of the 20th century, the team could not turn chances into goals even though they had the attacking talent on the field. This lack of efficiency in front of goal turned into an issue of his era.
Chelsea too appeared to be defensively weak, as they tended to give soft goals at the most appropriate times. Poor finishing and defensive instability made a vicious circle of frustration that the manager did not manage to break. Club officials were reported to have felt that something needed to be done urgently in order to salvage the rest of the season.
As European qualification is still mathematically attainable, it is anticipated that Chelsea will install a temporary solution as it considers long-term possibilities. The move is another change of management in the recent turbulent history of Chelsea, which shows the continued instability in the club.
