Evander, an All-Star midfielder, broke a record for FC Cincinnati by scoring in his fifth straight game. His side won 3–0 over Inter Miami in Major League Soccer (MLS) competition at TQL Stadium on Wednesday.
Evander scored two goals in the second half. His first goal came in the 50th minute when he hit a powerful left-footed effort from the middle of the box that went into the bottom-right corner of the net. This made Cincinnati’s lead even bigger.
He scored his second goal in the 70th minute, ending a great game. Evander took advantage of his chances in the second half after failing to score in the first half. This brought his total number of goals in the MLS regular season to 15.
In the 16th minute, striker Gerardo Valenzuela scored the first goal for Cincinnati. His left-footed shot from the left side of the box went into the bottom right corner of the net, giving him his fourth goal of the season.
Cincinnati had much of the first half, including six minutes of stoppage time, and they often pushed into Miami’s penalty area to test the custodian.
The home team took seven shots in the first half and 11 shots overall, six of which were on target.
FC Cincinnati’s defence kept superstar Lionel Messi and the rest of the Herons from scoring. Messi tried twice late in the first half. One shot was blocked by defender Lukas Engel, while the other was saved by goalkeeper Roman Celentano.
Celentano made two stops on his way to his eighth clean sheet of the season. Oscar Ustari and Rocco Rios Novo, the goalkeepers for Inter Miami, made four saves in the game.
