Five Million Requests Signal World Cup Frenzy

The demand of FIFA world cup 2026 is unprecedented, FIFA itself reported 5 million ticket requests within the first 24 hours of its latest sales phase. The announcement points out to the colossal international expectations as criticism grows as a result of high prices of tickets.

The tournament is planned to run across three host countries the United States, Canada and Mexico between 11 June and 19 July 2026 and has an unprecedented 48-team format. FIFA reported that there were applications of tickets by fans in more than 200 countries and this is a testament to the unparalleled popularity of the competition around the world.

But the record demand has not drowned out some apprehensions by the supporter organisations. FIFA structure of prices has been criticised by Football Supporters Europe (FSE) which has described the prices as extortionate and claimed that certain ticket categories are five times the prices of the 2022 world cup in Qatar. FSE cautioned on such pricing that would drive away traditional followers out of stadiums.

High profile group stage matches have become the primary demand generators. Colombia vs. Portugal in Miami has become the most demanded game of the tournament till now. Other matches that are of great demand are Brazil vs. Morocco, Mexico vs. South Korea, and the Ecuador vs. Germany in New York/New Jersey.

FIFA also gave details in regards to ticket demand source. Outside of the host nations, Colombia is the top international applicant, and England, Ecuador, Brazil, Argentina, and Scotland come next. FIFA observed that the impressive performance of Scotland indicates the national excitement the team had before the first appearance in the world cup after almost 30 years.
