Panama World Cup Elimination Confirmed

The Panama team has been beaten 1–0 by Croatia in their final FIFA World Cup 2026 Group L match at Toronto Stadium, putting the final nail in their elimination dream.

The breakthrough was in the 54th minute, when Josip Stanisic’s well thrown cross found its target in the shape of Ante Budimir, who converted with a neat finish to give Croatia all 3 points. The victory will help Croatia bounce back from their recent defeat and stay close to the knockout stage finish.

Although Panama had a very good defensive organization, they were unable to convert possession opportunities into identifiable attacking results. Thomas Christiansen, head coach, said that no team could win a game if they don’t score, which sums up a basic shortcoming.

The first half saw the Central American side get closest to breaking the deadlock, when Jose Luis Rodriguez pushed the header over the crossbar by Dominik Livakovic, who made a classy save which could have been a pivotal moment in the game.

The midfield and control quality in the game improved markedly after the break and Luka Modric, the 200th international of the club, led the game in central areas with control and the ability to dictate tempo and progression. His experience and distribution played a significant role in maintaining structural balance in Croatia.

Institutionalized: Panama’s campaign is developmental progress despite elimination early on. Christiansen stressed that the players are now exposed to a higher level of competition which has helped them grow to be better players and helped the team to be better prepared for the next cycle of competition. In the eyes of Croatia, the win has brought the game full circle, solidifying their position in Group L.
