Mourinho inked his deal with club president Florentino Perez and honorary president Jose Martinez Pirri.
The return of one of the most iconic figures in Real Madrid’s recent history will be hailed not just for his managerial ability but also at an awkward time for Real Madrid. Madrid are coming into the new LaLiga season without a trophy in hand, putting further pressure on Mourinho and the club’s management.
The Spanish club, which has had high expectations for Perez, is now subject to increased scrutiny from fans after his recent re-election. That’s a pretty heavy move to bring in Mourinho and it’s a sporting and political choice.
Mourinho has previously led Real Madrid from 2010 to 2013, during which time he won three trophies, including LaLiga, the Copa del Rey and the Spanish Super Cup. The return of his form will give the club the opportunity to bring back an era where they had to compete with each other, in a disciplined fashion, and with high-profile clashes.
The 2026 return also is about unfinished business. Mourinho now has a long-term deal and the tasks of reshaping a side which will be vying for big trophies right now.
The training centre was over-the-toply modest in a club that was known for its epic trainings. Rather, the attention was given to the manager, his contract, and the hurdles to be overcome.
Mourinho’s second spell at Real Madrid will be open for evaluation with the new LaLiga season starting very soon. However, it’s not just about the results, it will rely on his ability to revive the winning ethos that is expected at the Santiago Bernabeu.
