Amar Dedic Newcastle transfer is complete, the Bosnia and Herzegovina international has joined Newcastle United on a five-year deal from Benfica for a transfer fee of approximately £30 million.
Newcastle announced the deal on Tuesday, with Dedic undergoing a medical in Tyneside before officially taking the plunge into the club on his 24th birthday. Newcastle are beefing up their defensive armour ahead of the new Premier League season and the right-back will be an important addition to the ranks.
The transfer also sees Dedic reunite with his manager Matthias Jaissle. The duo last played together for the Austrian side Red Bull Salzburg, helping the team to the league championship in 2023. The time he spent with Jaissle was a big part of why he took the move to Newcastle, Dedic said. The defender also pointed to the opportunity of playing in Premier League football at St James’ Park as one of the draws.
The Bosnia and Herzegovina international is joining as Newcastle seek to replace Kieran Trippier who left on a free summer as his contract came to an end with Wolves.
Dedic could have an immediate opportunity to make his Newcastle debut. The club start their Premier League season with a match against Liverpool on Sunday, and Tino Livramento is continuing to recover from a calf injury he picked up when representing England in the opening match of the international break in June.
His arrival provides Jaissle some extra choice of defence and will also provide competition for Newcastle’s right. Having worked with Dedic in the past may also help the manager become a part of the Dedic team quickly.
