On Friday, Fenerbahce confirmed that Jose Mourinho had left the club prematurely after Benfica eliminated them from the UEFA Champions League.
After departing AS Roma, the 62-year-old Portuguese manager took over in July 2024. Fenerbahce fans were thrilled to see him go after Galatasaray’s domestic supremacy. He was greeted by thousands in Istanbul last summer.
The club announced Mourinho’s resignation and thanked him. Jose Mourinho, our professional A team head coach since 2024–2025, has left. We appreciate his efforts and wish him career success, Fenerbahce remarked.
Fenerbahce started the season inconsistently, with early European failures putting pressure on Mourinho. Galatasaray accused him of racist statements during a rivalry match and threatened legal action earlier this year, further tarnishing his term.
In previous press appearances, Mourinho expressed frustration over the team’s deficiencies and sounded increasingly melancholy. He led Fenerbahce to 37 wins, 14 draws, and 11 losses in all competitions.
