Alexander Isak Ruled Out for Sweden

Liverpool’s Alexander Isak has been ruled out of the final three Nations League group-stage games for Sweden after being injured in his previous appearance for the club on Friday.Liverpool striker Alexander Isak has been ruled out of the remaining three Nations League group-stage games for Sweden after joining the injured list for Friday’s match.

The 27-year-old striker scored in the 2-1 win against Romania on Friday but will now be transferred back to Liverpool for more medical evaluation and recuperation. The Swedish FA only termed his injury “a minor injury” but did not elaborate on the nature of the injury.

Sweden will play Poland on Monday before finishing off their group stage campaign against Bosnia & Herzegovina and Romania. Isak is missing out on all three matches as the national team keeps on its tour.

His absence also puts attention on Liverpool’s upcoming schedule. The Premier League side will be looking to recover before an important home match against Manchester City on October 11 at Anfield.

Since joining Liverpool on a £125 million ($165.61 million) move from Newcastle United last year, the striker has had a solid start to his Liverpool career. He has had four goals after five appearances for his Premier League club, behind only Manchester City forward Erling Haaland in the scoring list.

Sweden will also be without centre-back Hjalmar Ekdal, who picked up an “unserious” injury during the international camp. The Swedish FA confirmed the news that Ekdal is also out of the squad and will miss the next few matches. The federation says there have been no replacements called up for either player at this point.

Isak’s departure is a current selection issue for Sweden especially after his performance against Romania. The task for Liverpool now will be to help him recover, and whether he can get back in time for the team’s next match against Manchester City.
