Folarin Balogun is set to stay at AS Monaco following the deal with Everton’s break on transfer deadline day, several outlets report. The 25-year-old had been to Liverpool and had been working on a medical with Everton as they and Monaco negotiated a deal valued at between $53.2 million and $54 million with the potential for an additional $5.8 million depending on add-ons.
Everton found something wrong with Balogun’s medical and ended up looking to alter the original transfer terms with Monaco, The Athletic reports. Everton then went back to the transfer market for more time beyond the transfer window to finalise the deal. But it was said Balogun eventually changed his mind on the transfer and put an end to the lengthy saga.
The forward has been at Monaco for the last three seasons, and has netted 31 goals and assisted nine times in 91 games for the club in all competitions. He has also had stints in Europe with Arsenal, Middlesbrough and Reims.
Because Balogun has turned into an integral part of the U.S. men’s national team since he selected to represent the United States internationally in 2023. He was born in New York and raised in England to Nigerian parents, scoring 12 goals in 31 games for the USMNT.
His latest global campaign also garnered a lot of attention. Balogun had a pair of goals in the United States’ first World Cup win over Paraguay and started the round of 32 game against Bosnia and Herzegovina with a pair. He was substituted in that game and was to leave shortly afterwards.
The Everton deal ended up failing and Balogun finds himself at Monaco after being linked to several other clubs this summer, including Tottenham, Aston Villa, Barcelona, Paris Saint-Germain, Sunderland and Crystal Palace. Everton now have to find other options to find attacking replacements, while Balogun will get another chance to prove himself at Monaco.
