On Wednesday, Galatasaray announced that Ilkay Gundogan has joined them from Manchester City for two years. Media reports say his net remuneration for 2025–2026 and 2026–2027 will be 4.5 million euros ($5.27 million).
Galatasaray and City announced this Tuesday that Gundogan would be transferred for free till the end of the 2026–2027 season. Gundogan expects City to succeed and will monitor them closely.
He said they’ll be in his heart.
“I have no doubts Manchester City will enjoy much more success in the future and I will certainly be watching on from afar as I continue my career in Turkey, a country that means ever such a lot to me,” he stated.
Manchester City will always be precious to me. To win the Premier League and FA Cup meant so lot to me, but to raise the Champions League trophy for this club for the first time, especially in Istanbul, will always be memorable.”
City’s midfielder has played 358 games in two spells and scored 65 goals and won 14 trophies, including the Premier League, FA Cup, and Champions League treble in 2023. Gundogan joined City from Borussia Dortmund in 2016, but he left for Barcelona in 2023.
He returned to Manchester in 2024–25, scoring five goals and providing eight assists in 54 games across all competitions.
